How to Boost Immunity of Kids during Winters

How to Boost Immunity of Kids during Winters

Taking preventive measures during winters can help to keep illness and infection in kids at bay. Here are few things that you can do to boost immunity of your kids during winters.

Winter is the season for Christmas, cakes and picnics. However winter is also the season for common cold, flu and other immune system disorders. Studies show that children are 45% more susceptible to cold than adults. Here is what you can do as a parent to boost the immune system of kids during winter.

Providing Immune Boosting Vitamins

There are some vitamins that can greatly help boost the immunity. Two of the best immune system boosting vitamins are vitamin D3 and Vitamin C. While a tall glass of whole milk will give your kid the necessary dose of Vitamin D3, an orange per day should keep the Vitamin C level going. However, sometimes organic food is not enough to maintain the Vitamin levels. This is when you can give oral vitamin supplements after medical approval from your doctor. Diluted essential oils massaged on your kid are also a great way of boosting immunity. You can opt for tea tree oil and basil oil as both have a strong immune boosting function.

The 8 Hour Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep can be cited as the one stop solution to most health issues. Sleep is almost the only time the body gets to repair damaged tissue and heal the immune system. It is important that young children get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. Normally kids should not have a problem in falling asleep naturally but sometimes a little help is required. Massaging you child with magnesium oil or using lavender oil in your diffuser is great for promoting a relaxing feeling in the body. If you do not have a diffuser then massaging some diluted lavender oil on the soles of the feet of your kids is also a great idea.

Reduce Sugar Consumption

This is one of the most difficult tasks you will have to accomplish as a parent. Keeping kids away from sugar is supremely tough but unfortunately sugar is one of the biggest enemies of the immune system. Sudden inflammation and suppressed immune response are two of the biggest side effects of increased sugar intake. Choose slow releasing sugars like Molasses (a winter speciality) to make sweets at home; molasses does not spike up the sugar level like sugar. Inculcate a taste for other delicacies like chicken soup, fruit smoothies etc, in your kids and lure them away from sugar slowly.

Detoxification and Purification Baths

The bath time is a good time to shed off all the accumulated toxins from the body. In winters physical activity is restricted and food consumption levels are high leading to accumulation of toxins which suppress the immune system. The burdened immune system becomes unable to ward off germs and viruses. This is why a detoxification routine is important to siphon off toxins from the body. A good way is to put neem leaves in warm water before bathing your kid as neem is a natural detoxifier and antibacterial agent. A half an hour exercise session before bath time is an awesome way to detoxify. Make exercise a family activity so that kids are more motivated and the benefits re reaped by the whole family.

Promote a Peaceful Grateful Environment

Stress and hostility are the biggest enemies of the immune system while gratitude and peace are its biggest allies. Promote a peaceful environment in your home by playing joyful music, having family get together and spending quality time with your kids. Practice gratitude by praying together with your kids in whom you thank God for keeping your family healthy and strong. Inner peace promotes a good immune response.
This winter, following these simple tips will keep your kids healthy and happy.
